What to Expect…

What goats can do:

  • climb and even knock down small shrubs to defoliate and create access for removal

  • eat grasses and forbs to knee-high (THEIR knees)

  • tolerate and defoliate thorny shrubs (I’m looking at you, multiflora rose and wild blackberry)

  • eat poison ivy - they love it!

  • strip bark by rubbing and chewing, which can kill unwanted plants and trees (we will plan to protect things you wish to keep). Repeated and scheduled grazing pressure can kill even the toughest weeds

What goats can NOT do:

  • eat branches

  • leave behind a golf course-looking lawn - they will however skeletize shrubs and forbs to create easier access for removal

  • tolerate a select few toxic plants - we will scout around and take care of those by hand as needed for their safety

  • go without water - we will create a water management plan together

  • protect themselves from canids - we will create a plan for their safety from wildlife and domestic dogs

  • use a toilet. they will poop where they please and the soil will thank you for it - their waste is not “hot” and will not burn grass, especially in a short visit
